We spent the following day exploring Atlantic City. Outside of the glitzy, sprawling casinos along the beach, there was not much to see... rundown, economically-challenged housing for the most part. On the 19th, I racked the bike to the back of the camper van, and Peggy, Fletch, and I headed north towards New York City and Long Island to visit my Uncle Gerry. At the time, he was a particle physicist at the Brookhaven National Laboratory (which until 2008, had the world's most powerful particle accelerator). He is currently retired and living in Boulder, Colorado. The following morning, we drove to the northeastern end of Long Island to catch a ferry across Long Island Sound to Connecticut.
