Wild pigs are not native to Hawaii. According to one source: "They inflict severe damage on native ecosystems by roto-tilling the soil in search of food and destroy the soil structure. It started with Captain Cook and subsequent ships that brought goats, sheep, cattle, and European swine to Hawai‘i, beginning in 1778. The animals were allowed to multiply and provide a food source for later visits."
