Compositions in Concrete
Much of an urban lanscape is the concrete at our feet... sidewalks and street curbs, steps and foundations of buildings, and such. Even outside the city, concrete can be found wherever humans have been. If one looks closely, however, a composition in the concrete can be seen. While walking through an older neighborhood, my eye was drawn to points of color at my feet. The sidewalk was as old as the early 20th century house next to it. The crack in the concrete had deteriorated and expanded over time, until someone sought to repair and smooth it over with some caulking substance... and, with an artistic impulse, embedded the marbles before it hardened.
