No side trips this time. I racked up my two-wheeler that morning at Lake Almanor and headed for Mt. Lassen National Park... but not before making a quick stop in Chester to take a picture. The story: I had not had cell service since heading east from Highway 395 a few days before. Peggy and I had anticipated this, so I brought along a pre-paid phone card. All I needed to find was a phone booth. Lake Cove Resort didn't have one, but the proprietor had a cell phone that worked (my carrier, Virgin Wireless, did not work in Lake Almanor) and was gracious enough to let me use it for a quick call to Peggy to assure her I was okay. My ride around Lake Almanor the day before took me through the town of Chester. Of the four phone booths I found, two had phones that didn't work and two had the phones taken out...
