Day 5: Vale, Oregon to Boise, Idaho. Woke up to rain.. again. This one was definitely a full-fledged rain, unlike the heavy mist we woke up to in Newport on day one. The night before, we had witnessed an impressive lightning storm in the direction I was to go the following day. We don't have displays like that in the Central Valley of California. Anyway, the rain eventually stopped and I was on the road to Boise by 9am.

As I've mentioned, riding a bike along the road allows one to see things you are likely to miss at 65 mph. I'm cruising south along the merged portion of Highways 20, 26, and 95, when I caught it out of the corner of my eye. "Oh my god," I thought, "is that what I think it is?" I braked and did a u-turn to investigate. Even then I had to look closely before I was sure it wasn't what I had initially thought. I'd say right now what it was, but the pics I took are more dramatic...

More headwinds and big rain-threatening clouds as I rode through mostly grain and livestock country. Arrived in Boise about 3pm to stay with some friends of ours.

Hot spot. First one found so far. An internet cafe where I was able to sit down and open up my laptop on a table and update www.bunceman.com/bike. THANX, DAVE!!...
