Skippers. Flat, round stones with smooth edges. Not too small, but not so large that it hurts the arm to throw. And when you throw them, you need to be low at the water's edge to get the best and most skips along the water's surface.

Here's the plan.

We drove from Castle Crags to South Beach State Park, which is just south of Newport, Oregon. I told Peggy I wanted to walk barefoot in the Pacific surf before my ride east tomorrow. I picked up a skipper along the way and skipped it. I knew then what I was going to do. Find a good Pacific skipper, take it with me and skip it in the Atlantic Ocean. I'll find a good Atlantic skipper there, and when I get back to the Pacific...
