Log Entry #4: June 11, 2005

There was a lot of rain in the valleys and snow in the mountains of California over the winter. The spring runoff has filled the rivers and reservoirs. Everywhere, even small creek beds, the water is flowing strong to the Pacific.

The Sundial Bridge at Turtle Bay Exploration Park crosses the Sacramento River in Redding, CA. Unlike the the Golden Gate, this bridge has 'one' tower with cables supporting a span across the river. When I see man-made structures like this, I marvel at those who think, design, and then actually build such structures.

Castle Crags State Park. Had been there before. Peggy and I were on our way to another biking adventure of mine from Brookings, Oregon, to San Francisco along Highway 1. Castle Crags is aptly named as an outcropping of towering granite off of Interstate 5 near Mt. Shasta. If you hike a strenuous trail up into these crags, you will be rewarded with a unique view of the towering peak of Mt. Shasta and miles of surrounding landscapes.
