~BunceMan's TranzAmerican Bike Ride~

Log Entry #38: July 15, 2005

Day 33: Williamsport, Maryland, to Intercourse, Pennsylvania. Woke up in the middle of the night to torrential rains. First thought was, "Oh #*%, my bike is out there.."

"It's taken care of," said Peggy looking at me from our loft in the BRP. The bike was staying dry under the extended rear hatch.

Generally, I'm a light sleeper.. but I've been konkin' out completely at night during this tranzamerican ride. Peggy had not only climbed down and rescued my two-wheeler from the deluge, but Fletch the Wonder Dog was stayin' dry 'inside' the BRP as well.

The RV park we were staying at was called Jellystone RV Park. There were statues of Yogi everywhere, including the onsite miniature golf course. Drive ways within the park were called Booboo, and other Yogi Bear-related names.

Since heading east from the Mississippi River, it's quite obvious that this is an 'older' part of America. A lot of the houses are big and brick. Another popular feature of these houses and buildings is the cylindrical feature/column they have on one of the corners.

Gettysburg. While the emphasis through Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, and Nebraska was the Oregon Trail migration, the emphasis in Pennsylvania is the Civil War. Upon entering Gettysburg, where the bloodiest confrontations between 'Americans' occurred, the traveling motorist is presented with an auto tour of monuments that have been placed next to battlefields and other related Civil War events since the 1880's. Peggy took the 18-mile auto tour through the battlefields, and took pictures of some these monuments. It was overcast and they made me feel somber.. I don't know...

Did some serious rain-riding today over less hilly terrain, but managed to reach Intercourse.. the name of a city in Pennsylvania...

Day 33 mileage: 115 miles | Scenes from York, Pennsylvania | Another triumph for Peggy
