~BunceMan's TranzAmerican Bike Ride~

Log Entry #37: July 14, 2005

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 32: Grantsville to Williamsport, Maryland. Interstate 40 and State Highway 144 follow the National Pike. This road was our "nation's first highway." It winds through the southern Allegheny mountains of Maryland.. presenting a challenge of steep grades and downhills for the tranzamerican cyclist. I spent most of my time out of the saddle and over my handlebars grinding up these grades, then a short, fast downhill. Slow up, fast down.. all day.

The bicycle race across American (RAAM) also followed these roads for 2005, as evidenced by inspirational markings on the road. I hope to finish my ride across America in 35 days. RAAM riders do it in under 10.

In her efforts to keep me off the freeway and other busy roads, Peggy discovered another 'rail-to-trail' path out of Hancock, Maryland, that went for 12 miles along the Potomac River. These trails provide a welcome respite from narrow roads and traffic.

35 days. That's the plan.. 3 more days to...

Day 32 mileage: 116 miles | Watching the RAAM a little too close perhaps...
