Log Entry #19: June 26, 2005

Day 14: Guernsey, Wyoming to Bridgeport, Nebraska. Leaving the rolling desert hills of Wyoming, I took advantage of some tailwinds and beat Peggy to Nebraska. Spent most of the morning pacing a coal train waving to the conductor three different times. Most of the rail line is double tracked. Other lines are single-tracked with pullouts. Trains have to take turns in the pullouts to wait for a train going in the opposite direction A lot of coal. Full trains (I counted 125 cars) were running east along Highway 26, while empty trains were running west.

Lots of references to the Oregon Trail along the way. See Peggy Pics and Of Historical Interest.

The winds remained favorable along the way and I was able to make good time rolling into an RV park on the outskirts of Bridgeport. Met Michael and Margaret Adkins, some nice folks from Toronto, Canada. Marianne and Bruce were traveling around with some cool 'teardrop' trailers pulled by some equally cool cars. They were on their way to meet up with other teardrop enthusiasts in Seattle, WA.

Heading for North Platte, Nebraska tomorrow.
